CPR Training: Many of the classes will require you to obtain your CPR training before you attend the classes. You will want to check with the program that you are considering attending to find out what their policies are about enrolling and if you have to be CPR certified prior to your enrollment.
Physically Fit Test: You need to realize that this is a physically challenging career and anyone who is considering becoming an EMT should realize that many of the programs will require you to pass some type of physical fitness test. You should be able to lift up to 120 pounds and will require you to be able to bend down quickly as well as move heavy objects. Another aspect of this position will require you to possess good eyesight to so you can drive an ambulance regardless of what the weather conditions are when you are called out to an accident to help save lives.
Level Of Training: When you enroll in a program you will have three different levels to obtain your license at, basic, intermediate as well as paramedic. Everyone will first have to complete their basic EMT program before they can continue to pursue any of the higher levels of training. Each state has different requirements for each level of training and you will want to check what your state requirements are to pursue your EMT license.
How Long Does It Take To Get An EMT License
The amount of time that it takes to get your EMT license will depend on the level of training that you decide to pursue. Anyone who is considering pursing this career choice can expect their education to last anywhere from six months to two years depending on the level of their EMT license.
Once you complete the state certified EMT training course you will then be required to take a state exam which is known as the NREMT. There are several ways to prepare for the state exam and you can easily take several practice exams that will help you prepare for this exam.
As an EMT you will be required to renew your license on a regular basis, each and every state is different so you will want to be familiar with the renewal process of your state.
