There are several accelerated EMT classes, each one more specific and advanced than the other, and each one addressing a certain level of qualification. If you have been
wanting to know about the accredited accelerated EMT classes; then you need to know this information.
Information Regarding Accelerated EMT Classes
The basic EMT classes usually last 9 weeks, with an average of 16 hours per week. For some students, this period is much too long and, since we all live in a continuous rush, maybe a shorter period of time, even if it requires an intensive amount of effort, could be more appropriate. The accelerated EMT classes last 14 working days (a little more than two weeks), with an average of 10-12 hours per day.
During these hours, students will attend practical courses, lectures, an ambulance training period and a hospital training period, together with the necessary theoretical support (a manual that gives the students the theoretical knowledge needed and guides them to solving the emergencies they will have to face).
During the accelerated EMT classes, the students will learn to recognize the symptoms and manifestations of emergency situations and to decide how they should intervene in the most efficient way in order to mitigate the crisis and stabilize the situation. The course includes training on how to intervene in the case of bone fractures, obstructed airways, heart attacks with the necessity of using the defibrillator, as well as deal with childbirth or severe bleeding. The course also includes training in performing the basic physical exams or administering oxygen and medication.
The next level of qualification provides the basic knowledge that allows the students to perform the administration of intravenous fluids and practice a variety of procedures that have been known to save the victims’ lives (like the Heimlich maneuver). The next level of qualification is actually an intermediate level between EMTs and paramedics.
Many of the people who choose the accelerated EMT classes intend to work on an ambulance; or as an EMT for the fire department. Some of them may have to work in remote areas, and these courses are of paramount importance for the well-being of their patients and colleagues. There are people who are taking the course in order to be able to take care of sick family members or relatives, or just to gain the confidence to deal with a medical emergency situation successfully. Others try to improve their resume in order to gain the advantage in a selection process of a renowned medical school.
Why You Should Consider Accelerated EMT Classes
Even though the classes are not easy to attend, because of the great volume of information that needs to be assimilated in a short period of time, many of the students that choose this path consider that it is easier for them to work hard for two weeks instead of going for the more relaxed 9 month course. Many of them live in different areas than the ones where the courses are held and would have to daily commute over big distances for 9 months, thus making the renting of an apartment in the city where the courses are held a much cheaper solution.
Others prefer to sacrifice a short period during the year, when they are not very busy (like the summer period), in order to attend these accelerated EMT classes, specifically because they only last for only 14 days – and this might be the best solution in most cases.
